Luke Laverdiere wins Maine Class B race by more than minute By Mary Albl of DyeStat Yarmouth senior Luke Laverdiere ran the fastest time of the day en route to a Maine Class B cross country title Saturday. On the 5,000-meter course at Twin Brook in Cumberland, Laverdiere clocked 15 minutes, 43.9 seconds to win. His time was more than a minute faster than runner-up Mitch Libby of Wells (16:47.43). Lincoln Academy ran away with the team title, scoring 56 points. In the girls B race, Freeport junior Lily Horne won in 19:10.85, while Yarmouth claimed the team title. In Class A, sophomore Lisandro Berry-Gaviria of Mt. Ararat ran 16:31.71 to take first and Falmouth won the team crown. For the girls, freshman Sofie Matson of Falmouth clocked the fastest time of the day for any girl, claiming the A title in 18:41.60. Camden Hill won with 73 points. In Class C, freshman Olivia Reynolds of Maine Coast finished first in 20:13.10. Junior Henry Spritz of Waynflete finished first in 17:01.67. Both the Orono boys and girls won team titles. The top 25 combined finishers advance to race Nov. 11 at the New England Championships at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast.
